Arizona Christmas Traditions

Here in the Evans Home we have a lot of Christmas season traditions. Arizona is definitely not your typical winter wonderland but I, for one, am extremely grateful to not have to shovel snow every morning. (Sorry Katelyn and Garrett, you chose to live in Utah, so that's your own fault). We thought it would be fun to share some of our Christmas traditions with you, and we want to know what your family's traditions are too! Make sure to comment below and let us know!!

First, we want to share a few of our more comedic Arizona traditions. If you're not from Arizona, you will definitely find these comedic. If you ARE from Arizona you probably have seen these on every corner or in every house.
Because where else are you going to put Santa hats in your front yard?

With the average temperature in the valley being around 70 degrees during the day you're more likely to see a "fireplace" on a TV then actually being utilized in a home. If you ask us we think this has a strange affect of actually making you feel warmer. (For those wondering, there are a couple fireplace options on Netflix for your viewing pleasure).

Of course, an Arizona Christmas wouldn't be the same without a delicious Mexican feast on Christmas!

Next up is some of our favorite activities! The last three years we have gotten to attend the Tran-Siberian Orchestra concerts and, let me tell you, I have never seen old men rock so hard. It is extremely impressive. A rock show full of laser shows, moving sets, incredible music, and even snow.

Christmas music is a huge staple in our house (of course not until the day after Thanksgiving, much to Katelyn's dismay) and Trans-Siberian Orchestra is widely included.

Of course the Christmas season always includes a few stops to local nativities and light displays including Merry Main Street, in downtown Mesa, the Mesa Temple Lights (sadly won't be put up for the next few years), and many neighborhoods. Don't forget the annual trip to Bass Pro Shops to visit Santa's Workshop and get a great FREE picture with the big man himself.

Katie, Katelyn, and Jason at the Mesa Temple lights circa 2013? (Katelyn had bangs, so a long time ago.)

Not pictured, but definitely worth mentioning are the hand bell choir that our Nana insists on every year we are all together, and the VERY competitive gingerbread house decorating contest (I  hear that Katelyn and Garrett have some big plans this year, so stay tuned).

When the Evans aren't in Arizona you will find them in Utah enjoying some (sometimes) snowy weather. Jason particularly enjoys being out in the snow, most likely snowmobiling, while you will find Katie inside curled up in 12 blankets, 11 jackets, 10 pairs of socks (well, you get the gist of it)..... by the fireplace with a good book.

More recently we have picked up on the "ugly" sweater trend and if you ask Jason, his outfit includes a pair of Christmas socks too.

We love the holiday season here at Living 48 Real Estate and hope you got a kick out of some of our many traditions.
